Leicester Surges Ahead in Connectivity Thanks to CityFibre Network

The northern areas of Leicester are now enjoying access to some of the UK’s fastest and most reliable internet services, thanks to the extensive full fibre network deployed by CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform.

CityFibre has successfully completed its rollout across most of the northern parts of Leicester, with over 100,000 homes now marked as ‘ready for service.’ This milestone empowers residents to opt for high-speed and dependable internet services once they go live in their vicinity.

This development signifies another significant step in CityFibre’s £80 million project, aimed at future-proofing Leicester’s communication infrastructure to accommodate the growing demand for data in an increasingly digital world.

Charles Kitchin, CityFibre’s Partnership Manager for Leicester, expressed his satisfaction, saying, “We are really pleased to be offering people in Leicester all the benefits full fibre connectivity has to offer.”

The construction work is currently progressing in the Wigston area, with plans to expand into Braunstone and Glen Parva over the next few months. This expansion will provide more residents with access to CityFibre’s network, enhancing opportunities for efficient remote working, online learning, and digital entertainment experiences.

Full fibre networks utilize 100% fibre optics to transmit data at lightning speed from homes to the point of connection, offering users speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps for both uploading and downloading, virtually limitless bandwidth, and unwavering connectivity.

In Leicester, customers already have access to the new network and can choose from various providers, including UK launch partner, Vodafone, and 13 other ISPs, with more expected to join soon.

Granemore is overseeing the construction on behalf of CityFibre, employing a locally sourced workforce. CityFibre’s goal is to substantially complete the Leicester project by the end of 2024, providing over 180,000 residents with access to the high-speed network, significantly elevating Leicester’s connectivity status.
