Wokingham’s homes and businesses are on the brink of a digital transformation as CityFibre, the UK’s leading independent full fibre infrastructure provider, races to future-proof the town’s connectivity with a £15 million digital network expansion.
The project, initiated in December 2022, has been making substantial strides, with East Wokingham Town and North Crowthorne already benefitting from the full fibre upgrade. The rollout now surges forward, targeting the remainder of Crowthorne and the northwest sector of Wokingham.
The grand plan? A 2025 completion date that will empower local residents and enterprises to transition to full fibre, securing their digital connectivity for years to come.
Neil Madle, CityFibre’s Partnership Manager for Wokingham, expressed his enthusiasm for the project’s swift progress: “We are not even one year into our build in Wokingham, so it’s extremely rewarding to see so many people benefit from our state-of-the-art full fibre network already.”
Acknowledging the inevitable disruptions accompanying such a massive digital infrastructure overhaul, Madle extended gratitude to the community for their support and patience throughout the process. He emphasized that the completed network would position Wokingham as a hub of digital innovation and growth.
But what exactly is the fuss about full fibre networks? In essence, they harness the power of 100% fibre optics to transport data at the speed of light, from homes to the connection point. The result? Blazing speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps for both uploads and downloads, virtually limitless bandwidth, and rock-solid connectivity.
On the local front, CityFibre’s local partner in this venture, OCU Services Limited, is working hand in hand with Wokingham Borough Council to ensure a smooth and safe rollout.
CityFibre’s ultimate goal is to offer residents a competitive array of providers. In Wokingham, early adopters can subscribe to a range of options, including UK launch partner Vodafone, offering selected Vodafone Pro Broadband plans, along with TalkTalk, Giganet, Zen, and other providers.
