£180 Million Investment Brings Ultrafast Broadband to 600,000 in Wales

Openreach has poured £180 million into Wales, bringing ultrafast, dependable broadband to over 600,000 homes and businesses. This significant investment is paving the way for lightning-fast connections, outstripping the average UK broadband speed by up to 16 times and leaving the old copper-based networks in the dust, being around five times more reliable.

What’s even more promising is that this is just the beginning. Openreach is gearing up to expand its full fibre network to cover most homes and businesses in areas like Llanelli, Llandudno, and Ebbw Vale.

Welsh Government Economy Minister, Vaughan Gething, expressed the growing importance of fast and reliable broadband. He stated that their Digital Strategy for Wales emphasizes digital connectivity as a vital utility for homes and businesses across the country. This substantial investment mirrors the telecom industry’s ongoing efforts to enhance the services available.

Suzanne Rutherford, Chief Engineer for Openreach in Wales, highlighted the profound impact of this new network. It’s not just about faster internet; it’s about giving businesses a competitive edge and offering families and remote workers future-proof connectivity. Openreach is committed to maintaining this momentum, ensuring that communities thrive, people can work from home seamlessly, stay connected with their loved ones, and access new opportunities.
