Worcester County Council and Openreach Collaborate to Bring Fibre Boost to 235 Premises

Worcester County Council in collaboration with Openreach have brought fibre broadband to over 235 homes and businesses in Charlton, near Evesham as part of the Project Gigabit Voucher Scheme.

By working closely with Worcestershire County Council, Openreach engineers were able to deliver the scheme which was above its original commercial plans. Worcestershire was asked to provide funding to help extend the Openreach network to as many homes and businesses as possible in phase 1.

The MP for mid-Worcestershire, Nigel Huddleston declared his support for the plans and how important the fibre connection was for places like Charlton, he said: “Being such a rural constituency, I know just how many of my constituents will benefit from full fibre broadband. This could not be truer for residents of communities like Charlton.”

Openreach’s Regional Director, Martin Williams, said, “From the very start, this community has been really keen to get fibre broadband and they’ve rallied together to achieve it.”

Already, this new network currently is scheduled expand coverage to 120,000 Worcestershire homes and businesses.
