nexfibre Adds 2000 Premises In Loughborough

nexfibre, the rapidly growing “altnet”, has just announced its connection to over 2000 premises in Loughborough to its full-fibre network. This investment is part of their broader plan to reach over 22,000 premises across Leicestershire, in partnership with their build partner and anchor tenant, Virgin Media O2.

This development in Loughborough highlights the progress nexfibre continues to make in deploying its next-generation full-fibre network to communities across the UK. This week, they proudly announced reaching 1 million premises, part of their ambitious goal of reaching 5 million premises by 2026.

Their full-fibre broadband, powered by the latest XGS-PON technology, boasts symmetrical speeds of up to 10 Gbps. With this expansion, more customers in Loughborough – and the wider Leicestershire area – can now access high-speed broadband and TV Stream services via Virgin Media O2.

In a statement, Fernando Molina, Chief Technology and Information Officer at nexfibre, expressed, “Delivering our high-quality, future-proofed network to over 2000 premises across Loughborough – and the wider Leicestershire area – is part of our mission to provide lasting value to the people and places we serve. By boosting access to broadband, we are enabling local communities to access the tools they need to participate and thrive in a modern, digital society and stoking growth in the local economy. Myself and the whole nexfibre team look forward to working with local leaders as we deliver on our commitment to provide next-generation broadband to thousands.”

Jane Hunt, Member of Parliament for Loughborough, emphasized, “High-quality broadband connection is not just about streaming Netflix or scrolling on social media; it’s about bridging opportunity gaps, fostering innovation, and empowering people across Loughborough with the tools they need to succeed. I very much welcome nexfibre’s investment in our local area.”

Julie Agnew, Managing Director of Fixed Network Expansion at Virgin Media O2, added, “More than 2000 homes and businesses in Loughborough will soon be able to feel the benefit of Virgin Media’s services – with packages that include everything from next-generation gigabit broadband to easy-to-use TV streaming and entertainment services. These ultrareliable full fibre to the home broadband connections come with speeds up to 10 times faster than local average – providing local people with total peace of mind that whatever they’re doing online, their connection won’t slow them down.”

nexfibre is a critical enabler of the government’s ambitions to close the digital divide and deliver a nationwide ultrafast broadband rollout by 2030. As a wholesale-only provider, they are committed to building and maintaining a quality full-fibre infrastructure platform. This enables them to deliver more choice, more competition and provide people, communities, and organizations with quality connectivity.
