Gigaclear Commences Yorkshire Expansion, Bringing High-Speed Broadband to Thousands

In an effort to bridge the digital divide and serve underserved communities, Gigaclear, the UK’s leading rural full fibre broadband alternative network provider, is embarking on an ambitious expansion project in Yorkshire. The company aims to connect over 16,000 homes and businesses in the region, significantly enhancing access to high-speed internet services.

Gigaclear has a strong presence in 23 counties across southern and central England, and its expansion into Yorkshire marks a strategic move to extend its coverage further north. The project is set to kick off in Brayton, with engineering teams already on-site. Subsequent phases will encompass areas such as Cawood, Thorpe Willoughby, and Hillam during the summer months.

To ensure a smooth and efficient rollout, Gigaclear is working closely with North Yorkshire County Council’s highways department and local parish councils to coordinate the deployment schedule and minimize disruption to local communities.

Gigaclear’s Delivery Director, Tony Smith, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing fast and reliable broadband to rural communities, many of which have limited access to ultrafast internet speeds. Smith noted that dependable high-speed internet has become essential for various aspects of modern life, from remote work and home entertainment streaming to the use of smart devices and security systems.

To expedite the rollout and minimize disruption, Gigaclear plans to leverage existing Openreach ducts and poles wherever possible. The company’s goal is to begin offering full fibre broadband services to Yorkshire customers by the end of the year.

This expansion effort follows Gigaclear’s recent announcement of securing up to £420 million in equity investment from Equitix. The investment will play a pivotal role in supporting Gigaclear’s long-term vision of providing high-quality broadband services to more than one million premises by 2027.
