In a significant stride towards enhanced connectivity, more than 500 households in Newark are set to reap the benefits of advanced broadband services, courtesy of a groundbreaking agreement between CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform, and Newark and Sherwood District Council.
The collaborative effort comes in the form of a wayleave agreement, green-lighting essential groundworks and installations. CityFibre’s substantial investment in Newark aims to introduce a cutting-edge full fibre network, utilizing 100% fibre optics to transmit data at lightning speed from residences to the connection point. This revolutionary infrastructure promises users speeds of up to 2.5GB for both uploads and downloads, boasting near-limitless bandwidth and unwavering connectivity.
The upgraded connectivity is poised to offer tenants a seamless experience in accessing portals and public service systems. Moreover, the newfound bandwidth freedom will enable residents to effortlessly manage utilities, embrace the latest smart home technologies, stream entertainment across multiple devices, and facilitate remote work with increased efficiency.
CityFibre’s Partnership Manager for Newark, Bashir Ahmed, emphasized the pivotal role of internet access in contemporary life, stating, “Today, internet access is no longer a luxury – it’s a must-have that underpins so many aspects of our home and working lives. This agreement will make a genuine difference to thousands of people living in council housing in Newark, giving them access to transformative technology.”

Spoors emphasized the importance of connectivity in the town’s growth, especially in areas like the Middlebeck development near the proposed Southern Link Road, emphasizing the need to future-proof Newark.
