CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform, has achieved a significant milestone in its £58 million plan to enhance Reading’s digital connectivity. With 340 kilometers of full fibre infrastructure now in place beneath Reading’s streets, there’s enough full fibre to encircle Reading Football Club’s stadium 982 times.
Neil Madle, CityFibre’s Partnership Manager for Reading, expressed satisfaction with the progress made: “340km of full fibre laid beneath the streets of Reading represents great progress in our rollout. We’re well on our way to making the town world-class in terms of its digital infrastructure, and residents will reap the benefits for decades to come.”
This achievement is part of CityFibre’s nationwide full fibre rollout, which aims to improve broadband infrastructure for up to eight million homes and businesses across the UK. The local phase of the project is carried out by CityFibre’s build partner, OCU Services Limited, which is currently working in the Woodley, Sandford, and University of Reading areas. Significant portions of the town, including North, West, and South Reading, have already been covered.
The objective of CityFibre is to offer residents a competitive choice of broadband providers. In Reading, customers can access services from UK launch partner Vodafone, including selected Vodafone Pro Broadband plans, along with TalkTalk, Giganet, and Zen. Additional providers are expected to join the network soon, enhancing connectivity options for residents.
