As the construction of Rochford and Great Wakering’s full fibre network advances, CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform, provided a comprehensive tour of the ongoing works to Cllr Ian Ward from Rochford District Council. This tour, which took place in Central Avenue, offered Cllr Ward an up-close view of the £25 million project in progress.
During his visit, CityFibre and Telelink UK representatives acquainted Cllr Ward with the concept of full fibre digital infrastructure, considered the pinnacle of network technology. They also conducted demonstrations of the standard construction process, which includes excavation and reinstatement.
Full fibre networks utilize 100% fibre optics to transmit data at high speeds from users’ homes to the point of connection. This technology provides consistently fast upload and download speeds (up to 1,000 Mbps), virtually limitless bandwidth, and dependable connectivity.
However, the advantages of a full fibre connection extend beyond high-speed entertainment access. Regarded as an essential digital utility, full fibre enhances the productivity and innovation potential of both households and businesses.
Jean Gowin, Area Manager at CityFibre, expressed her pleasure at showcasing the ongoing full fibre infrastructure upgrade to Cllr Ward. She emphasized that the network would deliver lightning-fast and dependable digital connectivity to the area, unlocking significant economic opportunities for the community.
Cllr Ian Ward, Portfolio Holder for Strategic Planning and Assets for Rochford District Council, commented on the progress of CityFibre’s £25 million project. He stressed the increasing importance of fast and reliable digital connectivity, highlighting that the new digital infrastructure would significantly benefit local residents and businesses.
Telelink UK is responsible for the construction of the network on behalf of CityFibre. The team employs various construction methods while working closely with Rochford District Council and local communities to ensure a speedy rollout while minimizing potential disruptions.
As each neighborhood’s network construction is finalized, CityFibre will designate the homes as “ready for service,” allowing residents to opt for full fibre-enabled broadband services as they become available in their area.
CityFibre is collaborating with launch partner Vodafone, as well as TalkTalk, Giganet, Zen, and IDNet, to provide next-generation broadband services throughout the UK. Additional providers are expected to join the network in the near future, further expanding full fibre access across the nation.
