CityFibre Continues Full Fibre Rollout, Enhancing Digital Connectivity in York

CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform, is making substantial progress in expanding its full fibre network in York. The ongoing rollout aims to connect even more homes and businesses to high-quality digital infrastructure, ensuring residents can benefit from reliable and high-speed broadband services.

CityFibre’s expansion in York includes areas such as Clifton Moor, Fulford, parts of Huntington, and the City Centre. This extension of the network allows a growing number of residents and businesses to choose full fibre-enabled broadband services when they become available.

In York, customers have the option to subscribe to internet services provided by CityFibre’s UK launch partner, Vodafone, on selected Vodafone Pro Broadband plans. Additionally, they can choose from several other internet service providers, including TalkTalk, Giganet, Zen, IDNET, No One, Hyperfiber, and more.

The full rollout in York is scheduled for completion in 2024, at which point nearly every home and business in the area will have access to full fibre services from various internet service providers.

Kim Johnston, Regional Partnership Director for CityFibre, expressed their enthusiasm about expanding their presence in York. This move aims to enhance the city’s digital capabilities, making it one of the best-connected cities in the UK. Residents and businesses in York can soon enjoy the benefits of reliable and lightning-fast broadband through multiple providers.

York is part of CityFibre’s nationwide effort to bring advanced broadband infrastructure to millions of homes and businesses across the UK.

Roy Grant, Head of ICT at City of York Council, emphasized the importance of fast and reliable connectivity for communities, especially in an era where hybrid working and media streaming are on the rise. Additional investment in York’s digital infrastructure will ensure that more residents and businesses can access world-class connectivity.

Unlike traditional copper-based ‘fibre broadband’ services, full fibre networks rely on 100% fibre optic infrastructure to deliver data at lightning speed from the home to the point of connection. This provides consistently fast upload and download speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps, virtually unlimited bandwidth, and dependable connectivity.

Construction for this expansion is being managed by MakeHappen Group LTD on behalf of CityFibre. The team employs various construction techniques while collaborating closely with the City of York council and local communities to ensure a swift rollout with minimal disruption.
