Sky and CityFibre have forged a new long-term partnership, set to bring Sky’s broadband services to the CityFibre network. CityFibre, which currently covers 3.8 million premises, aims to expand its network to at least 8 million over the coming years.
Starting in 2025, Sky’s Full Fibre Broadband will be available to customers on CityFibre’s network, with ongoing efforts to ensure a smooth rollout. CityFibre, the largest independent full fibre platform in the UK, will enable Sky to offer its broadband services on a nationwide scale.
In the longer term, Sky’s broadband services will extend to over 1.3 million homes in hard-to-reach areas through CityFibre’s involvement in the Government’s Project Gigabit Programme.
CityFibre is also committed to upgrading its entire network to 10Gbps XGS-PON, which will support the introduction of a more extensive range of symmetrical multi-gigabit products for its ISP partners.
Amber Pine, Sky’s Managing Director of Connectivity, commented: “Our partnership with CityFibre allows us to deliver fast, reliable, and affordable broadband to more homes across the UK, expanding our full fibre reach to even more households, which is crucial in today’s connected world.”
Greg Mesch, CEO of CityFibre, added: “This partnership with Sky is a strong endorsement of our business and firmly establishes CityFibre as the UK’s third digital infrastructure platform. As the demand for digital connectivity continues to rise, our network is equipped to provide the quality, reliability, and competitive infrastructure the UK needs.”
