LightSpeed Broadband has launched a wholesale division, LightSpeed Networks, opening its network to ISPs and potentially resellers. The network currently covers 250,000 premises across 32 towns in the East of England and West Midlands. Acquired by Kompass Kapital last year, LightSpeed is aiming to expand its reach to 350,000 homes by the end of 2025.
The new wholesale service offers various connectivity options, from 100Mbps to 100Gbps. Although, taking the information form their landing page, we can see they are currently only promoting 10GB – 100GB ethernet services. LightSpeed has now split into two brands: LightSpeed (ISP) and LightSpeed Networks (wholesale).
Brett Shepherd, LightSpeed Group CEO, said:
“We’re delighted to have launched LightSpeed Networks at Connected Britain this month, discussing all things broadband with likeminded telecoms innovators.
Our mission is to empower homes, businesses, and communities with flexible, high-quality broadband infrastructure. By building partnerships based on shared goals, we aim to push the boundaries of technology and unlock new opportunities for everyone.”
Taking the information from their new landing page, we can see they are offering speeds
We’ve recently seen multiple networks enter the wholesale space, looking to increase penetration on their network and, of course, revenue. There is no clear pattern to understand which route the wholesalers take. Some will negotiate directly with one or more of the big five ISPs (like Vodafone, Sky, TalkTalk, etc.), while others will interconnect with an “aggregator,” such as PXC (the wholesale brand of TalkTalk). Others, who focus solely on B2B and other Ethernet services, will aim to go directly to resellers. Another approach is to interconnect with a “third-party integrator/aggregator,” for example, Fibre Café (more to come on that later).
It’s exciting to see another network come to the table to wholesale their offering, and we have no doubt we will see more in the near future.
