Openreach is rallying residents in Honington, Lincolnshire, along with nearby villages, to support the effort to bring ultrafast and ultra-reliable full fibre broadband to their local homes and businesses.
The company is emphasizing the importance of applying for free Government broadband vouchers to ensure that these communities do not miss out on a unique opportunity for a full fibre upgrade. These vouchers can be utilized to access faster speeds and greater reliability.
Should a sufficient number of residents participate, Honington, as well as the neighboring areas of Barkston, Syston, Carlton Scroop, Hougham, and Hough-on-the-Hill, will join over 70,000 households and businesses in Lincolnshire that already enjoy the benefits of full fibre broadband.
To determine eligibility and submit their voucher pledge, residents can visit the Connect My Community website.
Thanks to funding from the Government’s Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme and the implementation of new broadband signal-boosting technology, which extends the reach of the full fibre network, many more remote rural communities now have access to ultrafast technology.
Openreach has identified Honington and its neighboring villages as strong candidates for a Full Fibre upgrade and is encouraging local residents to apply for and combine free Government Gigabit Vouchers to assist in financing the project.
Wendy Sycamore, Openreach’s regional engagement manager for the Midlands, expressed excitement about the opportunity this presents to Honington and the surrounding areas. She noted, “This is an exciting opportunity for the people in and around Honington to bring all the benefits of ultrafast, ultra-reliable full fibre broadband to their community.”
Sycamore also emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating, “Building out the network to these harder-to-reach locations is still challenging – which is why it’s only possible with everyone working together – you, your neighbors, and Openreach. Everyone who pledges a voucher will be doing their bit to help make this area one of the best-connected places in the UK.”
Openreach is making substantial investments, allocating £15 billion to bring full fibre broadband to 25 million homes, with over six million of those in the most challenging regions of the UK. Government support, including the Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme, plays a crucial role in achieving this goal.
