Openreach is embarking on a groundbreaking project to construct an ultrafast broadband network in Bishopbriggs, offering residents and businesses access to some of the fastest and most dependable broadband services available in the UK.
This transformative full fibre broadband upgrade will empower thousands of local individuals and enterprises, allowing them to connect multiple devices at speeds capable of gigabit performance. The Bishopbriggs project aims to encompass the majority of local residences and businesses in the town, supplementing the 15,000 properties throughout East Dunbartonshire that already have the option to upgrade to the new Openreach network.
Additionally, Openreach is extending ultrafast broadband to some of the region’s most remote communities as part of the Scottish Government’s Reaching 100% (R100) initiative. Areas like Lennoxtown and Balmore are among those set to benefit.

However, in certain cases, new poles, underground ducts, and fibre cables may be necessary to ensure comprehensive coverage.
Thorburn concluded by reaffirming Openreach’s dedication to extending full fibre coverage to rural communities in East Dunbartonshire, ensuring that even isolated areas can benefit from ultrafast broadband services.
