In a bid to usher Appleton Roebuck into the digital age, Openreach is calling on local residents and businesses to seize the opportunity to bring ultrafast, ultra-reliable full fibre broadband to their community.
Openreach has sounded a warning that failing to apply for free Government broadband vouchers could result in Appleton Roebuck missing out on a transformative full fibre upgrade. These vouchers are instrumental in securing faster speeds and enhanced reliability.
Should sufficient numbers of residents sign up, Appleton Roebuck will join the ranks of over 110,000 homes and businesses across North Yorkshire already benefiting from full fibre broadband. This significant leap in connectivity is made possible through the Government’s Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme and the deployment of cutting-edge broadband signal boosting technology, expanding the reach of the full fibre network to encompass more remote rural communities like Appleton Roebuck.
Openreach has identified Appleton Roebuck as a prime candidate for full fibre coverage and is urging local residents to take the initiative by applying for and collectively utilizing the free Government Gigabit Vouchers to contribute to the network’s construction.
To determine eligibility and pledge vouchers, residents can conveniently visit the Connect My Community website. These vouchers come at no cost to residents and facilitate Openreach’s collaboration with the community to create a tailored, co-funded network. Importantly, this approach extends the reach of the ultrafast, ultra-reliable network to premises in outlying rural areas that would otherwise remain outside the scope of private investment.
Louise Thompson, Openreach’s regional engagement manager, expressed enthusiasm about the transformative potential of this initiative, stating, “This is a really exciting opportunity for the people of Appleton Roebuck to bring all the benefits of ultrafast, ultra-reliable full fibre broadband to their community.”
Openreach’s Fibre Community Partnership programme has the potential to include hundreds more communities in the UK within its Full Fibre expansion plans. Nevertheless, extending the network to harder-to-reach locations presents significant challenges, necessitating a collaborative effort involving residents, neighbors, and Openreach.
Thompson emphasized the crucial role of voucher pledges in making Appleton Roebuck one of the best-connected places in the UK. Openreach is making a substantial £15 billion investment to provide full fibre broadband to 25 million homes and businesses, with over six million of these located in the most challenging areas of the UK. Government support, such as the Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme, is integral to achieving this ambitious goal.
