Today, Ofcom released a letter confirming they are gearing up to finalize the transition from the old Notification of Transfer (NoT+) system to the new One Touch Switching (OTS) process for consumer broadband and phone switching. The OTS, managed by the industry-led One Touch Switching Company (TOTSCo), was launched in September 2024 to simplify provider switching. While there were initial concerns about the reliability of OTS, improvements have been made, and it is now deemed effective for most customers. Ofcom will decommission NoT+ on October 24, 2024, eliminating it as a backup option after that date.
Despite some ongoing challenges with OTS’s customer matching system, the latest data indicates increasing success rates in transfers. Ofcom expects full cooperation from all providers to ensure that consumers experience seamless switches without disruption. Providers must resolve technical issues quickly to avoid customer inconveniences and prepare for the upcoming phase-out of NoT+. This transition highlights Ofcom’s push to modernize switching and improve consumer experience across the telecom sector.
