Local businesses in Caerphilly are poised to gain access to ultra-fast multi-gigabit full-fibre internet speeds following a partnership between Ogi and Caerphilly County Borough Council.
The Tredomen Business and Technology Park, situated near the Council’s headquarters, accommodates approximately 30 businesses, ranging from legal and accounting firms to cutting-edge tech startups.
As part of the agreement, Ogi has successfully installed a custom ‘Ogi Pro’ full-fibre network at the park, capitalizing on its £5 million network expansion in nearby Hengoed. This new infrastructure will provide business-grade connectivity with speeds up to 8Gbps right from the start, with the potential for further increases as needed.
This development aligns with the local authority’s vision to transform the Ystrad Mynach site into a green energy hub. Ogi’s passive network is designed to be more energy-efficient than conventional copper networks, delivering higher, more reliable broadband speeds to the businesses located there, while also reducing environmental impact and operational costs.
Andy Dow, Ogi’s Director of Business Sales, emphasized the importance of such infrastructure in business parks like Tredomen, which play a crucial role in regional economies. “It’s essential that these areas have access to the same quality of connectivity as larger cities like Cardiff and Newport,” Dow remarked. “As more people choose to work closer to home, it’s crucial that we invest in the necessary infrastructure to support innovation and growth. We’re thrilled to partner with Caerphilly Borough Council at Tredomen, enhancing the park’s appeal to both current tenants and new businesses – and I’m excited to see how these businesses will leverage this new technology.”
Ogi, powered by Nokia’s hardware, made headlines in 2022 by becoming the first UK Internet Service Provider (ISP) to commercially deploy 25G PON, delivering 25Gbps symmetrical speeds to businesses at Tramshed Tech in Cardiff.
Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Deputy Leader, Councillor James Pritchard, also expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration with Ogi. “We’re pleased to have established this new partnership. Strengthening business connections is a priority for the Council, and we look forward to furthering this relationship,” he stated.
Ogi Pro, launched in 2023, is the business division of the Wales-based telecom company, offering a suite of digital solutions including connectivity, AI integration, and managed services. This initiative is part of a larger £200 million phase one rollout of new full-fibre services, with Ogi’s award-winning team driving business growth not only in urban centers but across Wales and beyond.
