Independent full fibre provider, CityFibre, has announced that it has completed its primary-build for its full fibre network in Northampton. Using triple-play infrastructure built by DB Schenker, the network passes more than 87,700 homes are “ready for service” and, since 82% of residential properties in the city can already benefit from the fibre connections, the firm says it means Northampton is already one of the most digitally connected in the UK.
Local residents in Northampton can now benefit from some of the very best broadband speeds available in the country, following the completion of CityFibre build in the area. Customers aare signing up to full fibre services from a range of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) that operate on the City Fibre network. Installation appointments for nearly all of the network-covered homes can be booked within five working days of an order being placed (extremly quick for a network). The network delivers download and upload speeds of up to 1GB!
CityFibre also claimed that the significant expansion of the fibre-to-the-premises across Northampton would enable the delivery of “smart city” technologies with the potential to provide city-wide coverage, and would facilitate the roll out of 5G.
The completion of Northampton’s full fibre network is a major step forward for the town and Charles Kitchin, Partnership Manager at CityFibre, highlighted the jump in digital connectivity for the area. As a result of the network, Kitchin said residents of Northampton could now enjoy significant, future-proofed gigabit speed broadband services, allowing the towns’ digital economy to drive and flourish.
Acknowledging CityFibre’s achievement, West Northamptonshire Council, Councillor Mike Hallam, Cabinet Member for Corporate Services and HR, explained how the adoption of robust digital infrastructure in the region was having a profound impact on the local economy, attracting leading businesses driving the Northern Powerhouse plans for Northampton and the region; a development which was in turn benefiting local communities.
