Despite the availability of Ultrafast Full Fibre broadband in Newport, less than 20 percent of eligible residents and businesses have opted for the upgrade, leaving thousands without access to faster, more reliable internet services.
Openreach, following a substantial £9.3 million local investment, has been actively working to construct the network, with the aim of providing ultrafast speeds of up to one gigabit per second (Gbps) to the majority of the city and its neighboring communities.
The residents and businesses of Newport are now urged to explore the benefits of faster broadband, especially considering that Openreach’s Full Fibre network, utilized by prominent service providers such as BT, Sky, TalkTalk, Vodafone, and Zen, is accessible to nearly 31,000 premises in the area. However, only 18.7 percent have taken advantage of this opportunity.
Full Fibre broadband offers more than just speed; it delivers enhanced reliability, resilience, and future-proof connectivity with fewer faults, consistent speeds, and the capacity to support multiple devices simultaneously.
Openreach’s commitment to expanding its network extends beyond Newport, with significant progress seen in Cardiff, where over 107,000 households and businesses can already order the new technology. Furthermore, plans are underway to introduce the network in Ebbw Vale, Tredegar, and Abertillery.
Martin Williams, Openreach’s regional director for Wales, emphasized the advantages of this new network, which enhances business capabilities and ensures that families and remote workers have access to future-proof connectivity, regardless of the challenges life presents.
