CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform, welcomed Theresa May MP to Maidenhead to provide insight into the ongoing £14 million full fibre network project that is transforming the town’s digital connectivity.
During her visit, representatives from CityFibre and build partner VolkerHighways showcased the benefits of full fibre digital infrastructure to Theresa May MP, highlighting it as the best network technology available. They also provided demonstrations of the typical build process, including excavation and reinstatement.
Unlike many existing digital infrastructure setups in households, full fibre networks employ 100% fibre optic technology to transmit data at high speeds from homes to the point of connection. This ensures consistently fast upload and download speeds, reaching up to 1,000 Mbps, nearly unlimited bandwidth, and reliable connectivity.
A full fibre connection offers more than just fast access to entertainment; it’s a fundamental digital utility that enhances both households and businesses. Experts predict that it will drive various economic benefits, increasing productivity and fostering innovation.
Neil Madle, CityFibre’s Area Manager for Maidenhead, shared his enthusiasm for Theresa May MP’s visit and the transformative work taking place in the town. He mentioned that, according to recent research by Hatch, Maidenhead’s full fibre network is expected to unlock £146 million in productivity and innovation, along with a £103 million increase in property values.
Theresa May MP for the Royal Borough and Windsor and Maidenhead, commented on the progress of CityFibre’s £14 million project, emphasizing the importance of investing in digital infrastructure. She highlighted that such investments will greatly benefit residents and businesses, positioning Maidenhead as one of the best-connected towns in the UK.
Construction of the network in Maidenhead is being carried out by VolkerHighways on behalf of CityFibre. The team employs various construction methods and collaborates closely with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council and local communities to ensure a speedy rollout while managing potential disruptions.
As each neighborhood’s network nears completion, CityFibre will designate homes as ‘ready for service,’ allowing residents to opt for full fibre-enabled broadband services when they become available.
In Maidenhead, CityFibre is partnering with Vodafone to offer next-generation broadband services. Additionally, TalkTalk, Giganet, Zen, IDNet, Octaplus, Yayzi, Trunk, and Andrews & Arnold are part of the network, with more providers expected to join soon.
