CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform, has successfully completed the primary-build phase of its full fibre network in March, a town in Cambridgeshire. This accomplishment now offers over 8,500 homes, constituting approximately 80% of the town’s residential properties, access to high-quality full fibre broadband.
The £5 million project, which commenced in January of the previous year, involved laying almost 27 kilometers of dense full fibre infrastructure throughout the town. While the primary-build is now finished, CityFibre plans to explore opportunities to extend coverage, including reaching new properties, those situated on private or unadopted roads, and business parks.
March residents and local businesses can now access affordable and reliable full fibre broadband services from various internet service providers (ISPs), including Vodafone, TalkTalk, Zen, Giganet, and more. Customers whose homes are within the network’s coverage area can schedule a full fibre installation within five working days of placing an order.
Rebecca Stephens, CityFibre’s Regional Partnership Director, expressed excitement about the completion, highlighting the economic opportunities full fibre connectivity brings to March. She emphasized that the local community is just beginning to realize the substantial benefits this infrastructure offers.
Steve Barclay, MP for North East Cambridgeshire, emphasized the importance of fast and reliable digital connectivity in driving growth and inclusion for residents and businesses in March. He sees it as a crucial factor in attracting investments and expanding economic opportunities.
Cllr Chris Boden, Leader of Fenland District Council, expressed pride in March becoming one of the first towns to complete a full fibre rollout project in the country. He believes this £5 million investment will enable March to thrive in the digital age, enhancing home internet services and boosting productivity and innovation in local businesses.
Cllr Jan French, Deputy Leader of Fenland District Council and county, district, and town ward member for March, marked CityFibre’s full-fibre rollout as the beginning of a prosperous and better-connected future for the town. Access to high-quality broadband is seen as a significant boost for residents, businesses, and services alike, ensuring March’s continued growth and success.
