CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform, has commenced construction work in Swinton, Wath upon Dearne, as part of its £31.2 million investment to upgrade the town’s digital infrastructure. The project aims to provide local homes and businesses with access to a future-proof full fibre network, designed to meet their growing data requirements for decades.
Heneghan & Sons, the local delivery partner, will collaborate closely with CityFibre and Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council to ensure the construction process is carried out safely and efficiently. The project’s approach minimizes disruption by completing work in each area within a few days, with prior notifications to residents.
Charles Kitchin, CityFibre’s Partnership Manager for Wath upon Dearne, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative: “I’m immensely excited and proud to see work getting underway in Wath upon Dearne as it gets ready to thrive in the digital age. It’s important to remember that any short-term disruption will pay off tremendously in the long-term – once the network’s built, it will serve the community’s connectivity needs for years to come.”
The full fibre network employs 100% fibre optics, delivering data at lightning speed from homes to connection points, offering users speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps for both uploads and downloads. Besides high-speed entertainment, experts anticipate that full fibre will provide significant economic benefits by enhancing productivity and innovation.
Upon activation, customers in Wath upon Dearne can access full fibre services through various providers, including CityFibre’s UK launch partner, Vodafone, offering selected Vodafone Pro Broadband plans. Additionally, TalkTalk, Zen, and Giganet are available, with more providers expected to join the network soon.
