Tillicoultry is set to experience a broadband revolution as Openreach embarks on constructing an ultrafast broadband network, offering residents and businesses access to some of the fastest and most reliable broadband in Europe.
The Full Fibre broadband upgrade will enable the local community to connect multiple devices at gigabit-capable speeds, facilitating online trading and ensuring competitiveness for years to come. Engineers initiated the project earlier this year, with expectations to extend coverage to the majority of homes and businesses within the next 12 to 18 months.
Currently, Openreach’s Full Fibre network serves over 17,000 premises in Clackmannanshire, encompassing nearly 65 percent of the region. This technology enhances connectivity by reducing faults, ensuring consistent speeds, and accommodating growing data demands.
Residents can look forward to seamless streaming, smooth online gaming, and efficient online services, including video calls, online banking, and customer interactions. Robert Thorburn, Openreach Partnership Director for Scotland, emphasized the significance of this infrastructure upgrade and its minimal disruption, thanks to leveraging existing ducts and poles. However, some new installations may be necessary to include households in the upgrade. Thorburn encouraged more residents to consider upgrading to Full Fibre, emphasizing the ample capacity available.
Tillicoultry is part of Openreach’s comprehensive broadband expansion across Scotland, covering more than 200 rural towns and villages. This balanced approach aims to ensure equitable progress, facilitating effortless online access and community opportunities for all residents in Scotland.
Councillor Ellen Forson, leader of Clackmannanshire Council, expressed her delight at the project, recognizing the growing importance of ultrafast broadband for residents and businesses across the county.
Openreach’s ultrafast Full Fibre network in Scotland now spans over 950,000 properties, with plans to extend this technology to 25 million homes and businesses by the end of 2026. Circet, an Openreach build partner, is assisting in delivering this investment in Tillicoultry, with a commitment to minimizing disruption while enhancing broadband services for the local community.
