Exciting news from Canterbury!

nexfibre, has kicked off build activity to connect over 13,000 premises in Canterbury to its full-fibre network. This initiative is part of their partnership with build partner and anchor tenant, Virgin Media O2.

The investment in Canterbury is a clear indicator of the progress nexfibre is making in deploying its next-gen full-fibre network across the UK. Recently, the company hit a major milestone by reaching 1 million premises, with an ambitious goal of connecting 5 million premises by 2026.

nexfibre’s full-fibre broadband utilizes the latest XGS-PON technology, capable of delivering symmetrical speeds of up to 10 Gbps. This means more customers in Canterbury and the wider Kent area will soon have access to high-speed broadband and TV streaming services through Virgin Media O2.

Rajiv Datta, CEO of nexfibre, shared his enthusiasm: “We are committed to delivering high-quality full-fibre connectivity to communities and businesses across the UK, including here in Canterbury. By enhancing broadband access, we are providing the essential tools needed to thrive in a modern, digital society and fueling growth in the local economy.”

Julie Agnew, Managing Director of Fixed Network Expansion at Virgin Media O2, added: “More than 13,000 homes and businesses in Canterbury will soon benefit from Virgin Media’s services, offering everything from next-gen gigabit broadband to easy-to-use TV streaming and entertainment packages. These ultra-reliable full-fibre connections deliver speeds up to 28 times faster than the local average, ensuring that whatever people are doing online, their connection remains robust and speedy.”

nexfibre plays a crucial role in the government’s goal to close the digital divide and achieve a nationwide ultrafast broadband rollout by 2030. As a wholesale-only provider, nexfibre is dedicated to building and maintaining a high-quality full-fibre infrastructure, which fosters more choice, competition, and reliable connectivity for people, communities, and organizations alike.
